Gel Stain Paint Cabinets

Gel stain paint cabinets. While gel stain does go on thick and sit on the surface of the wood i found that you can still see and feel the natural wood grain beneath unlike paint. There are some drawbacks though. The gel stain is thick like pudding not a liquid. For example it s difficult to get out once it s on and the gel color may look lighter than you intended.
Apply a little bit of gel stain on the tip of the brush and apply it to the corners. Then apply polyurethane again. A gel stain is a great way to bring outdated or worn cabinets up to date. Gel stain comes in many colors and the thicker the stains the better.
The cabinets looked pretty plain and we considered staining them a darker color. The stain should look darker in the corners and fade out. Use gf gel stain as a paint on any wood surface. Gel stain will not require you to sand the product to a raw wood finish.
With the oak cabinets the grain was very evident post staining. I used general finishes java gel stain n also used antique walnut. Check out my front door. Basically you are following the same steps as above.
I also had old oak cabinets with a veneer side. I followed youtuber pete b n his exact directions n used same brush to paint on the gel stain n let me tell you it came out perfect n i never did this before. It is a shame to cover up solid wood stain grade cabinets because they cost a lot more than the paint grade cabinets. Using a rag lightly blot and wipe the stain in both directions one to two inches.
Sand that area with 220 grit apply 1 3 coats of gel stain as a paint waiting for each coat to try. If you ve finished your cabinets and down the road someone chips the finish.
